Why Registering Your Business on Google Isn’t Optional (And How to Fix It If You Haven’t)

You’ve got the website. You’re showing up on Instagram. You might even be sending the occasional email. So why does it still feel like people can’t find you?

Let’s talk about your Google Business Profile — also known as your “digital front door.”

Wait... what is a Google Business Profile?

It’s that box that pops up when someone searches your business name. It shows your location, hours, reviews, website link, and contact info — sometimes before they even get to your website.

If it’s missing, incomplete, or (yikes) claimed by someone else… you’re leaving trust, visibility, and potential sales on the table.

Here’s why it really matters:

Most people don’t find you through your website first — they find you through Google.
In fact, 97% of consumers learn more about a local business online than anywhere else. Your Google listing shows up in searches, maps, and voice assistants (like Siri or Alexa).

It’s how people find you on their phones — especially locally.
Whether someone’s looking for a coffee shop, yoga studio, juice bar, or gift shop, Google pulls up what’s nearby first. If you're not listed — or listed incorrectly — you may as well be invisible.

It builds instant trust.
A verified business with accurate info and a few great reviews is a green flag for new customers. An unclaimed listing with missing hours or a broken website link? Not so much.

Real Talk: We’ve seen this go wrong.

We once worked with a local business whose Google listing had been hijacked by someone else with a fake phone number. They didn’t even know until customers started complaining. Fixing it was a nightmare — and avoidable if they’d claimed their listing early.

Here’s how to register your business on Google (in less than 10 minutes):

  1. Start HERE

  2. Sign in with your business Gmail account ( if you don’t already have a gmail account for your business, you will need to set up a free account first, but this will walk you through the steps)

  3. Follow the steps to claim your business name, add your info, and verify it (Google will send a postcard or offer phone/email verification)

  4. Add your hours, website, phone, and a few photos

  5. Done! Now update it as needed

Bottom line:

If people can’t find you, they can’t hire you, buy from you, or refer you. This step might feel small, but it can make a big difference — especially when it comes to showing up with confidence online.

And hey — if you’re feeling stuck or unsure if yours is set up right, we’re just a message away.

You’ve got this. Your people are looking for you — let’s help them find you.
